The Czech Museum of Fine Arts, Prague, is a contributory organisation of the Central Bohemia Region

The Czech Museum of Fine Arts, Prague, is an institution dedicated to collecting 20th- and 21st-century art. Its statute is specified by a deed approved by an agreement of the Central Bohemia Regional Government no. 17-7/2002/ZK of 12th February 2002. It is a specialist art historical and research institute entrusted with collecting and conserving cultural heritage but also, through all accessible means, acquainting the public with this heritage, thereby fulfilling a unique role in educating the public and cultivating society as a whole. The museum’s activities are a highly specific service provided to all social groups. The basic legal norm that governs its work is law no. 122/2000 concerning both the protection of museum collections and a change in several other laws, and decree no. 275/2000.

The collection of the Czech Museum of Fine Arts, Prague, is recorded in the Central Collections Register (CES) under the Czech Ministry of Culture. Accessible to the public, CES is a list of institution collections representing the wealth of movable cultural heritage in the Czech Republic.

Rada galerií ČR

The Czech Galleries Council (Rada galerií České republiky, RGČR) is a voluntary association of collection galleries (museums of art) and individuals active in the same field. It was founded according to law no. 83/1990 concerning the association of citizens in its later version. The Czech Galleries Council represents collection galleries (museums of art) with the aim of helping their development as a special part of Czech museum practice, and in accord with valid legal guidelines it supports and coordinates the basic directions of their activity: the conservation, protection, presentation and expansion of their art collections as a unique part of the Czech national cultural heritage.

ICOM (the International Council of Museums) is an international, professional and non-governmental organisation with the statute of a consulting body for UNESCO. It was founded in 1946.

The aim of the national committees of ICOM and their regional associations is to support museums and museum employees in their specialist work, in the conserving of collections and their preservation, in presenting materials and in improving museum employees’ specialist qualifications. These aims are fulfilled primarily through the coordination of activities and by spreading information about current events and the state of this profession on a global scale, as well as through providing scholarships and representing the profession’s interests both nationally and internationally.
